Thaddeus Young Exercises Player Option, Staying With Pacers

INDIANAPOLIS – Forward Thaddeus Young will be back with the Indiana Pacers for the 2018-19 season.

News came out on Thursday that Young will exercise his $13.7 million player option, bypassing free agency and remaining with the Pacers. It was rumored that Young was considering opting out and testing the market.

Young’s return is the latest piece of new regarding Indy’s offseason outlook. It was announced on Monday that Indiana declined guard Lance Stephenson‘s $4.3 million team option, making him a free agent.

Young, a ten-year NBA veteran, brings leadership to a fairly young Pacers squad. He averaged 11.8 points and 6.3 rebounds a game last season with Indiana, starting in every game but the team’s regular season finale.

His presence in the postseason was felt as well, with his solid defense helping the Blue and Gold take the eventual Eastern Conference champion Cleveland Cavaliers to seven games.
