The South Bend Cubs drop both games in their double header

SOUTH BEND: The West Michigan Whitecaps got the first runs of the game in the second inning and kept the South Bend Cubs off the score board. The Cubs had three hits and also made three errors.

In the bottom of the second Austin Athmann of the Whitecaps reached on a fielding error by third baseman Zack Short of the Cubs. Then the Whitecaps got things rolling their way to get some runs.

Cole Bauml reaches on a force attempt, throwing error by first baseman Wladimir Galindo.  Athmann to 3rd and with runners on the corners they were bound to get a run or two. Anthony Pereira triples (1) on a line drive to center fielder D. J. Wilson. Athmann and Bauml score to give the Whitecaps the lead.

The Cubs could not get anything going throughout the whole game. The Cubs just got two hits one coming from Yeiler Peguero and one from Luis Ayala.

The second game against the Whitecaps went 16 innings. No one scored a run in this game for 16 innings and unfortunately it was not the Cubs who scored. South Bend did however get 6 hits but also made three errors.

Jacob Robson singles on a ground ball to second baseman Yeiler Peguero to give the Whitecaps a chance with two outs. Elvis Rubio walked which sent Jacob Robson to 2nd and then Blaise Salter singles on a line drive to right fielder Chris Pieters. Jacob Robson scored and that ended the nail bitter.

The Cubs will look to redeem themselves tonight against the Whitecaps at 7:05, it is a four game series so hopefully they can win these last two.
