INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Sean Horan, redshirt senior linebacker for the Butler Bulldogs, earned CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Second Team honors on December 2. The Academic All-America honorees are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and are comprised of 48 student-athletes.

An economics and mechanical engineering double major, Horan’s 3.93 GPA makes him one of 16 members on the 2016 Academic All-America teams with a GPA of 3.90 or higher.  Earlier last week, Horan was selected to the Academic All-Pioneer Football League First Team for the second consecutive year.

On the field, Horan served as one of the team captains for the Bulldogs.  The linebacker amassed 75 total tackles, seven tackles for a loss and a forced fumble during the 2016 season.  For his play, Horan was recognized as an All-PFL honorable mention, marking his third consecutive season on an All-PFL team.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Sports Information Directors then vote within their district. Horan previously was named an All-District nominee. All-District honorees then move forward to the All-America level where sports information directors once again vote.
