South Bend, IN- The No. 25 Notre Dame Fighting Irish basketball team defeated the Wake Forest Demon Deacons 85-62 on Sunday afternoon to go 15-6 on the season. All five Notre Dame starters scored in double figures in what was a dominant performance by the home team.
The big surprise on Sunday was senior A.J. Burgett, who started in his first game since March of 2014. He scored a career-high 14 points in 25 minutes of action.
Demetrius Jackson scored 14 points in his first game since injuring his hamstring against Boston College. Zach Auguste had one of his best games of the season, controlling the paint with 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Guard Bryant Crawford led the way for the Deacons with 20 points, but the loss brought their record to 10-11 on the season.
Notre Dame rebounded well from their loss to Syracuse on Thursday, but a win over the Deacons may not keep them in the Top 25. However, with the parity in college basketball this season, the rankings will change a lot between now and March.
The Irish are 6-3 in the ACC with some crucial matchups coming up, including an anticipated game against No. 2 North Carolina on Saturday.
The Irish will hit the road this week to face the No. 15 Miami Hurricanes on Wednesday before setting their sights on the Tar Heels. Wednesday’s game is at 7 p.m.
