Kellen Dunham Named All-Tournament at Old Spice Classic

INDIANAPOLIS, IN– Butler sophomore G Kellen Dunham, who set a tournament single game scoring record, was named to the five-player All-Tournament Team at the conclusion of the Old Spice Classic in Lake Buena Vista, Fla., on Sunday (Dec. 1). The Bulldogs wound up finishing fourth in the eight-team event.

Dunham scored 32 points in Butler’s opening-game victory over Washington State, breaking the previous Old Spice Classic record of 30 points held by several players including Michael Beasley of Kansas State and Marcus Smart of Oklahoma State, who tied the record earlier that day. He hit nine of 14 shots in the game, including a career-best six three-point field goals. Dunham scored 24 points in the second half and tallied 11 of Butler’s final 14 points in the win.

The 6-6 guard from Pendleton, IN. posted 9 points and 4 rebounds in Butler’s two-point loss to #5 Oklahoma State, and then he finished the tournament with a game-high 20 points in the Bulldogs’ overtime loss to LSU in the consolation game. He wound up averaging 20.3 points and 4.7 rebounds for the three tournament games in Florida.

Shaq Goodwin of tournament champ Memphis was named tournament MVP. Also named to the All-Tournament Team were Marcus Smart of Oklahoma State, Austin Nichols of Memphis, and Ronald Roberts of Saint Joseph’s.

Dunham is leading the Bulldogs in scoring after seven games with a 17.8 average. He ranks among the leaders in the BIG EAST in three-point field goals with a 3.0 average.

Butler will remain in Indiana for its next six games, beginning with a two-game homestand. The Bulldogs will host North Dakota on Saturday, Dec. 7, at 6 p.m. (ET) and then face Manchester in Hinkle Fieldhouse on Monday, Dec. 9, at 8 p.m.
