Kelan Martin Named BIG EAST Player of the Week

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – Sophomore G Kelan Martin has been named the BIG EAST Player of the Week after leading the #17/18 Butler Bulldogs to a pair of wins last week. The Conference office also announced that redshirt senior G/F Roosevelt Jones was named to the league’s five-player Honor Roll. The announcement was made Monday, Dec. 14.

Martin’s accolade is Butler’s second consecutive BIG EAST Player of the Week after senior G Kellen Dunham earned the honor Dec. 7.

Martin averaged 22.5 points in two wins by the Bulldogs last week. He scored 45 points in only 40 minutes of play. In Saturday’s win over Tennessee, Martin had a career-high 25 points that included a 5-of-8 performance (62.5%) from behind the arc. He added a career-high 11 rebounds for his second career double-double. In Monday’s win over VMI, Martin added 20 points and eight rebounds. For the week, he shot 61%. Those two performances came on the heels of another career-high (24 points on 10-of-14 (71.4%) shooting against Indiana State on December 5th.

Jones narrowly missed a triple-double Saturday against Tennessee, posting a season-high 21 points to go along with 10 assists and seven rebounds. It was his 11th career double-double. Jones also had 14 points in the Bulldogs’ win over VMI Monday.

The Bulldogs take the week off for finals before meeting Purdue in a match-up of ranked teams at Bankers Life Fieldhouse as part of the Crossroads Classic. The tip is scheduled for 5 p.m. on BTN.
