INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Hoosiers know now that they won’t be dancing in the NCAA Tournament this year. For the second time in the last four season, IU isn’t NCAA Tournament bound next week. Instead, they’re playing in the NIT.
IU (18-15) will play on the road at Georgia Tech in Atlanta at 9 p.m. ET on ESPN this coming Tuesday night. The Hoosiers, are the No. 3 seed in their region with Syracuse as the top seed. The Yellow Jackets are the No. 6 seed.
The reason for IU being a better seed and not hosting in Assembly Hall was due to the fact that the student are on break and won’t be around. If, IU wins, and things to plan, then they will host the second round game though.
But, that’s if they win on Tuesday. Georgia Tech has been very good at home in beating North Carolina, Notre Dame, Florida State and Syracuse.
If IU does win, they would either play at No. 2 Georgia or host No. 7 Belmont. Those two teams play Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET.
This is IU’s first NIT appearance since their first round exit then in 2005 to Vanderbilt. That game was held in Assembly Hall.
