INDIANAPOLIS – On Wednesday, the Indiana Hoosiers got news that Grant Gelon will transfer from the school. Gelon, a Crown Point graduate, was former head coach Tom Crean’s first recruit in last year’s class. But, he played sparingly as a freshman, totaling just 1.8 points-per-game and 38 total minutes in 12 appearances.
With new head coach Archie Miller, Gelon didn’t feel a fit in Bloomington anymore, noting that his role with the team wouldn’t increase as a sophomore.
Also, Robert Johnson said he would return to school, leaving IU with one scholarship spot open for the 2017-2018 season. Miller though said that he doesn’t necessarily see the need to have a full roster of 13 scholarship players.
James Blackmon Jr., Thomas Bryant and OG Anunoby will all not come back and have hired agents for this year’s NBA Draft.
More news came out on Wednesday, as the Hoosiers will travel to New Jersey in early November to take on the Seton Hall Pirates on Nov. 16. The game is part of the third annual Gavitt Tipoff Games. IU will see one of the nation’s elite bigmen in that matchup as center Angel Delgado announced recently he was coming back to school. He was an All-Big East center and is going to be a preseason All-American.
