INDIANAPOLIS – A day after it was announced that a couple of Indianapolis Indians would take part in the 2016 MLB All-Star Futures Game, it was revealed another pair of Tribe players will represent the team at the 2016 Triple-A All-Star Game.
Starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow and first baseman Josh Bell were named to the International League All-Star roster on Wednesday and will play against the Pacific Coast League’s best on July 13 in Charlotte, N.C.
Glasnow, the Pittsburgh Pirates top ranked prospect, joined Indy’s roster on August 1 of last year and posted a 2-1 record with a 2.20 ERA in eight starts. The right-hander has spent all of 2016 so far with the Indians and has been spectacular on the mound, picking up seven wins in 16 starts with an ERA of 1.70. He is currently the IL’s leader in strikeouts with 105 and sits in second place in ERA with that 1.70 mark.
Bell was ranked as Pittsburgh’s second best prospect by Baseball America to begin this year and just like Glasnow, he was called up and made his Indianapolis debut on August 1 of the 2015 season. The first baseman notched a .347 batting average with two homers and 18 RBIs in 35 games played with the Tribe last year and has continued to knock the cover off the ball in 2016. Bell has a .316 batting average thus far in 2016, making him the International League’s active leader, and also owns a team-high 11 home runs and 47 RBIs.
The game will be aired live on MLB Network at 7:00 p.m. on July 13, just one day after the MLB All-Star Game is played in San Diego.
