Smith was diagnosed with a rare form of non-Hodgkins lymphoma in February. This form of cancer is more typically found in children than adults. Team doctors in Lithuania, where Smith was playing, diagnosed him and sent him back to the states where he has been undergoing treatment since. His return to the Eurocup team, the Neptunas, or professional basketball at all, remains uncertain until the treatment is complete.

The 2013 graduate started in 103 games for the Butler Bulldogs and raced up 1,147 points, good for 25th place on Butler’s all-time scoring list. He is also 12th on the school’s all-time rebounds list with 648. He was one of just three players in Butler history with 1,000 career points and 100 career wins.  Butler fans will never forget that Smith also played in the national title game in both 2010 and 2011
