INDIANAPOLIS- The widely popular Crossroads Classic has inked a deal to stay around for a while longer as all four athletic directors announced on Thursday afternoon that the successful basketball classic that feature four in-state schools will return to Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis through the 2019. Each December, Indiana, Purdue, Notre Dame and Butler gather in downtown Indianapolis and play two games in the home of the Indiana Pacers. They rotate opponents each year with Indiana playing Notre Dame and Purdue taking on Butler in the debut of the fun filled day in 2011. In the following year they switched it up with IU taking on Butler and Purdue playing Notre Dame.
They will rotate in that cycle every other year.
Last year, it was back to the way it was in the first season with IU playing Notre Dame and Purdue vs. Butler. They will do this rotation through 2019 as this year’s classic will take place on Saturday Dec. 20th pitting Indiana vs. Butler and Purdue vs. Notre Dame.
“We are thrilled to be the home of the Crossroads Classic through 2019,” said Rick Fuson, chief operating officer of Pacers Sports & Entertainment via a press release. “The Classic has become a popular and prestigious annual doubleheader bringing together four great in-state institutions. We are grateful for Bankers Life Fieldhouse to remain the host venue for this event, and we take pride in sharing a great tradition with Butler, Indiana, Notre Dame and Purdue.”
Notre Dame, will serve as this year’s host school.
Hopefully, this year’s games will be as thrilling as the last two years as we’ve been treated to some very good basketball since this brilliant format began four years ago.
