Colts Sign NT Johnathan Hankins to a 3-Year Deal

INDIANAPOLIS – One day after not agreeing to a deal, the Indianapolis Colts have since agreed to terms with nose tackle Johnathan Hankins on Thursday. Hankins, signed a three-year, $30-million contract to become the Colts’ new defensive lineman. The 2013 second round draft pick was formerly with the New York Giants. He had 140 total tackles and 10 career sacks in four years with the Giants.

New general manager Chris Ballard has made it clear he’s trying to rework the defensive side of the ball. Hankins joins recently signed Al Woods and Margus Hunt on the defensive front.

In addition to that, Ballard has added a trio of linebackers in Jabaal Sheard, John Simon and Barkevious Mingo.

The signings aren’t huge names, but it’s totally changing up the defensive unit the way it needs to be. The Colts are adding bigger, beefier as well as younger guys that will fit a system. Will it all work in 2017, that remains to be known, but it’s at least work in progress.
