INDIANAPOLIS – Its not the excitement of the official 2017 schedule, but we now know who/where/when the Indianapolis Colts will play their four preseason games this year. Unlike the regular season schedule, outside of the annual I-74 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals that annually closes out the exhibition play, the other three preseason games are unknown.
This year, the Colts will open up at home against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, August 13 at 1:30 p.m. ET in Lucas Oil Stadium. The two teams met in Week 1 of the regular season a year ago, and will now meet in Week 1 of the preseason this year. Detroit is coached by former Colts head coach Jim Caldwell, who beat Indianapolis 39-35 last year in LOS.
The next game is a trip to Dallas to take on the Dallas Cowboys in AT&T Stadium on Saturday, August 19 at 7 p.m ET. The Colts last played Dallas in Week 16 of the 2014 regular season in a blowout defeat at Dallas.
Week 3 will be on the road at the Pittsburgh Steelers on Saturday, August 26 at 7:30 p.m. ET in Heinz Feild. This is a great test for the Colts, as the third game of the preseason is when teams typically play their starters the most. With Pittsburgh blowing out the Colts a lot lately, this is a good barometer.
The annual Colts/Bengals preseason finale will come with 75-man rosters, as final roster cuts down to 53 players occur after Week Four, Thursday August 31 at 7 p.m. ET. Since 2001, the Colts and Bengals have met in every preseason, normally in the final week.
