Butler Bulldogs Place A Record 80 Student-Athletes on 2015 PFL Academic Honor Roll

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Pioneer Football League has recognized a record 616 student-athletes from its 11 member institutions to the Fall 2015 PFL Academic Honor Roll. The now 11-team league saw more than 600 student-athletes recognized on its honor roll for the first time since the award’s inception in 2001.

A record 56 student-athletes per school (616/11) were named to the honor roll, the fourth consecutive year its average has increased. The record average was boosted by the University of Dayton and Butler University, who became the first to have 80 or more student-athletes named in a year. Dayton saw 81 student-athletes receive honor roll recognition while Butler had 80 named to the list.

While those two programs set their program record, five other teams recorded a year-to-year increase in honor roll recipients. Campbell, Davidson, Jacksonville, San Diego and Valparaiso saw an increase in their year-to-year number and, in each case, were just shy of setting their program record.

Pioneer Football League athletic director and coaches established the honor roll as a way to recognize the league’s outstanding student-athletes. The academic honor roll consists of student-athletes who participated in football at member institutions during the fall semester and posted a 3.0 grade-point average or higher during the semester while enrolled fulltime in accordance with NCAA rules.
