Butler Bulldogs Drop Pioneer Football League Opener at San Diego

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Butler Bulldogs, winners of two straight, traveled to face the San Diego Toreros to open Pioneer Football League play on Saturday, September 24. PFL preseason favorite San Diego defeated Butler, 37-17, in a match-up that featured a combined 655 passing yards. Both teams are now 2-2 on the season.

Butler redshirt junior QB Will Marty had 260 of Butler’s 288 yards through the air. He connected with junior WR Pace Temple for 155 of those yards, including 110 in the first 20 minutes of the game. After San Diego took a 10-0 lead with a 35-yard Patrick Murray field goal with 3:32 remaining in the first quarter, the Bulldogs struck 41 seconds later with a 38-yard connection between Marty and Temple. That made the game 10-7.

San Diego QB Anthony Lawrence would find Zack Holland from nine yards out for a 17-7 lead on the first play of the second quarter. Once again Butler would answer as Temple caught a 12-yard strike from Marty to pull the Bulldogs back within three at 17-14.
