TOLEDO, OH – J.T. Brubaker tied a career high with eight innings pitched, as the Indianapolis Indians (62-50) rolled to a 2-0 win over the Toledo Mud Hens (57-54) on Saturday.
Brubaker only allowed three hits and did not walk a batter, fueling Indy to a league-best 14th shutout of the year. The Tribe now lead the Hens for first place in the division standings by 4.5 games.
The night belonged to Brubaker, who improved his record to 7-3. He struck out six for the game, putting the Indians in great position to earn a second straight win in Toledo.
Indy’s offense wasn’t necessarily humming on Saturday, but they churned out enough to back Brubaker.
Max Moroff doubled home Indianapolis’ first run in the second inning and Jason Martin provided some pop in the third. Martin’s solo shot was his third with the Indians and his ninth overall in 2018.
The final game of this four-game series is slated for a 6:05 p.m. start on Sunday. The Tribe will look for a series victory and a 5.5-game cushion over the Mud Hens in the IL West.
