Brault, Four-Run Fourth Lead Indians to Victory Over Buffalo

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Indians (62-52) had it all going on Monday night.

Steven Brault tossed seven scoreless innings and Indy’s offense produced four runs in the fourth inning, as the Tribe opened a seven-game homestand with a 4-0 win over the Buffalo Bisons (50-65).

Brault’s season of dominance continued against the Bisons. Indianapolis’ left-hander blanked Buffalo on three hits and two walks over the course of his seven innings of work. He needed just 82 pitches to get through those seven frames.

Brault’s league-leading ERA now sits at the 2.06 mark. He also earned his ninth win of the year on Monday, which leads all Indians pitchers.

At the plate, Indianapolis was shut out for seven innings. They were not shut out in the fourth, however, plating the lone four runs of the evening.

Jordan Luplow and Edwin Espinal started the inning with back-to-back singles, forcing Buffalo to call on their bullpen. That would not help, though. A walk to Joey Terdoslavich loaded the bases and after consecutive doubles from Elias Diaz and Phil Gosselin, the Tribe held a 4-0 lead.

Indy only recorded three hits outside of the fourth, but their pitching staff did not require much help on this night.

Following Brault’s departure, Angel Sanchez and Montana DuRapau each turned in a scoreless inning to close this ballgame out. Sanchez worked a perfect eighth, while DuRapau danced around two walks to complete the shutout for the home team in the ninth.

This series will continue on Tuesday with another 7:05 p.m. contest from Victory Field. Clay Holmes (7-5, 3.43 ERA) gets the ball for the Indians.

The Columbus Clippers defeated the Rochester Red Wings, 4-1, on Monday night to keep the Tribe’s lead in the International League West at a game and a half.
