Boscan Promoted to Pirates in Series of Roster Moves

INDIANAPOLIS – On Saturday, it was announced that Indianapolis Indians starting pitcher Wilfredo Boscan would be called up to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Boscan, who was scheduled to start for the Indians in Saturday’s game against the Norfolk Tides, will join Pittsburgh’s bullpen after the Pirates used seven relievers in a 12-inning game on Friday.

Boscan has made six starts for the Tribe in 2015, recording a 2.87 ERA with a record of 2-1 in 31 1/3 innings of work.

Utility man Steve Lombardozzi, who was promoted to the major leagues from Indianapolis on May 6, will return to the Indians to make room for Boscan. Lombardozzi went 0-for-4 with a walk and a run scored in six appearances with the Pirates.

In need of a starter for Saturday’s game, Indianapolis called up Matt Benedict from the Class A-Advanced Bradenton Marauders to start in Boscan’s place. Benedict has a record of 3-1 with a 2.57 ERA in eight appearances (six starts) between the Double-A Altoona Curve and Bradenton.
