MUNCIE, Ind: The Ball State Cardinals (19-11, 10-7 MAC) keep their hold and tie for first place in the Mid-American Conference with Western Michigan alive with last nights win over the Toledo Rockets (15-15, 8-8) beating them 82-74.
The Cardinals never gave the Rockets a chance in this game, in fact, Ball State held the lead the entire game from the start. You can say that the air was taken out of Savage Arena with the fast start BSU had.
Sophomore guard Tayler Persons started the game off for the Cardinals coming out hot and knocking down the first 22 points of the game for the team. Yes, you read that right. He finished the game with 31 points, 5 assists and 7 rebounds. Persons also hit a career-high six 3 pointers in the game.
Fellow teammate and solid performer, Senior forward Franko House was Ball State’s second highest scorer of the night making 17 points along with 4 assists and pulling down 8 rebounds.
There is only one more game left in the regular season for Ball State and its a MUST win if they want a chance to tie or win outright in the Mid-American Conference so the importance of this final game couldn’t be stressed enough. This team has the talent and drive to make that happen, as long as they keep their momentum and focus, they can clinch this next victory before tournament time.
Ball State’s final opponent of the regular season is the Northern Illinois Huskies who the Cardinals just faced off back on February 14th winning with a final score of 81-72. Last time was on their homecourt in the Convocation Center but this time they’re coming to BSU’s house Worthern Arena which should give the Cardinals a little extra of an advantage for this game.
The tip off is Friday at 7pm, come out and show support for this team as they wrap up the regular season. If you can’t make an appearance the game will also be broadcasted on ESPN3 the game is sure to be a competitive one.
