West Lafayette, IN-Purdue won their home opener tonight against Northern Kentucky in what would be a nail biting second half.
The game came down to the last minute. Errick Peck hit a three pointer to bring the score to 76-75 with the Boilermakers behind. With 13.4 seconds left, Ronnie Johnson had a chance to tie the game with a free throw. Johnson hit it, the score now 76-76, he took his stance to make free throw number two, the stadium was quiet as the shot went up. Seconds later the resounding honk of the horn confirmed the basket. Purdue fans went wild and the team raced back down the court to prevent a Northern Kentucky score. The Boilermakers won the game 77-76.
The starting line-up tonight consisted of Terone Johnson, Ronnie Johnson, Errick Peck, Jay Simpson, and Kendall Stephens.
Ronnie Johnson led the pack with 18 points in the game, he scored the wining free throws, and two three pointers. Right behind him was Jay Simpson with 14 points and six rebounds. Errick Peck had 11 points in the game with one three pointer and nine rebounds. Terone Johnson scored 10 points in the game as well.

Freshmen Bryson Scott, Basil Smotherman, and Kendall Stephens made their appearances tonight, with Stephens in the starting line-up. Scott played for 11 minutes and scored four points. Smotherman played for 14 minutes without scoring any points, while Stephens played 16 minutes scoring six points in the game.
Northern Kentucky almost took the game from Purdue, but Purdue kept on the pedal, working together and trying to score points when it came down to seconds in the game.
Their next game is Wednesday November 13th at home against Central Connecticut.
There is still a lot to improve on, but with one game under their belts, and a lot of passion and heart to fix the problems and continue to win, it’s going to be a good one. Boiler up fans, basketball season is here!
